Faces of the South West

2014 - 2015

The Faces of South West project explored the day-to-day realities of life in small towns and shared people’s aspirations and thoughts for the future. Within the context of the broader political and economic changes that rural Australia is experiencing, the project allowed ‘unheard’ voices to make comment

The South West Arts creative team have worked closely with local photographers in each local government area to develop an exciting and one of a kind exhibition. Along the way, they have expanded their skill base by working alongside professional artists to develop a portfolio of work for this project. The public art and online exhibition was the culmination of many months work, training and mentoring within the creative team.

Local photographers who worked on the project included:

  • John Haig (Deniliquin)

  • Mary-Anne Butcher (Conargo Shire)

  • Kerri Weymouth (Murrumbidgee Shire)

  • Filomena Pingiaro (Hay Shire)

  • Alicia McInnes (Wakool Shire)

  • Helen Sandford (Carrathool Shire)

  • Andrea Patford-Mitchell (Berrigan Shire)

  • Zowie Crump (Murray Shire)

  • Laura Mann (Balranald Shire)

The professional photographers and mentors for the project were Nina O’Brien-Hehir (Deniliquin), Nick Robinson (Deniliquin) and Kate Butler (Conargo).

The project received Funding from the Regional Arts Fund and was supported by nine Local Government bodies across SW NSW and numerous site owners.
