Horizons was a creative industry mentoring and career development program for NSW regional youth. The project will ran over 18 months and supported a total of 75 young people from across NSW.
Horizons was a state-wide regional project that provided direct intensive support to young people wanting to pursue a career in the creative industries. We aimed to provide participants with new pathways to explore work and study opportunities in the creative industries.
Participants were paired with an experienced mentor from their chosen field based in regional NSW. Each mentoring relationship addressed the needs and interests of each individual and enabled participants to connect into a network of peers to build strong state-wide networks early in their career.
The program created access and opportunities to seek pathways for creative industry career development by addressing the void of skills development and opportunities for young creative people and aimed to provide pathways for employment in the arts sector.
The result of this extended mentoring program was shared through a creative industry showcase development and led by the project participants, highlighting each mentoring project and the range of creative practices and industries represented. The showcase enabled the conversation on the opportunities open to regional young people, in this dynamic and evolving industry, to continue beyond the project.
